- Clean the outer shell with mild soap and warm water on a soft cloth; never use petrol, solvents, or abrasive cleaners as these degrade shell materials and coatings.
- If the inner liner is removable, hand-wash it in cool water with gentle detergent and allow it to air-dry fully before reinserting; if not removable, spot-clean only.
- Inspect the chin strap and retention buckle regularly for signs of fraying, cracking, or deformation, and replace if damaged.
- Do not leave the helmet in direct sunlight or a hot vehicle for extended periods — UV exposure and heat degrade foam liner materials over time.
- Replace the helmet immediately after any significant impact, even if no external damage is visible; internal foam does not recover after a hard strike.
- As a general guideline, retire any helmet after five years from the date of manufacture, or sooner if the shell, liner or retention system shows visible wear.
- Avoid applying stickers, spray paint, or aftermarket adhesives to the shell unless confirmed compatible by M2R, as some solvents in adhesives can weaken the shell.
