- Replace the oil filter at every scheduled engine oil change, or as specified in the motorcycle's service manual — do not reuse a filter.
- Before installation, lightly coat the rubber gasket with fresh engine oil to ensure a proper seal and easy future removal.
- Hand-tighten the filter until the gasket contacts the seating surface, then tighten a further three-quarter turn — do not over-torque.
- Verify the old filter gasket has been fully removed before fitting the new unit; a double gasket will cause an oil leak.
- After installation, run the engine briefly at idle, then switch off and inspect the filter base for any signs of seepage before riding.
- Dispose of the used filter and drained oil in accordance with local council or workshop waste-oil disposal requirements.
- Store unused filters in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and petrochemical fumes to preserve the gasket material.
