- Verify thread compatibility with your motorcycle's drain plug specification before purchase — confirm M18 diameter and 1.5 mm pitch against your service manual.
- Always drain the oil when the engine is warm so contaminants remain in suspension; allow adequate cooling before handling the plug.
- Inspect the magnet for captured metal debris each time you drain the oil; wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth before reinstalling.
- Excessive or rapidly accumulating metal shavings on the magnet may indicate internal engine or gearbox wear — consult a qualified mechanic if in doubt.
- Install with the appropriate sealing washer (refer to your service manual for the correct crush washer specification and whether it requires replacement each service).
- Torque to the manufacturer's specified value for your motorcycle's drain plug — do not rely on a generic figure, as over-tightening can damage the thread or sump.
- Do not use thread sealants or tape on drain plug threads unless explicitly stated in your service documentation.
