Treat gaskets as single-use: fit a new set every time the head or cylinder is removed, and do not refit old gaskets.
Remove all old gasket material and sealant from the mating faces using a soft or plastic scraper, taking care not to gouge the alloy sealing surfaces.
Check the cylinder head and cylinder base faces for flatness and damage before assembly, and machine or replace any component that is out of specification.
Fit the gaskets dry unless the factory service manual specifies a sealant, and keep any sealant clear of the combustion chamber, ports and stud holes.
