The Vee Rubber VRM-500 is an off-road motocross front tyre built for soft through to intermediate terrain, where an open, aggressive knob pattern needs to bite into loose dirt, sand and churned-up ruts. It is a tube-type tyre in a 4-ply construction, and in this 70/100-17 size it suits small-wheel 85cc-class and junior motocross machines running a 17-inch front rim.
Vee Rubber positions the VRM-500 as the upgrade replacement for the long-running VRM300, so it is a straightforward like-for-like choice for riders who have run the older pattern. A sensible option for club racing, practice days and weekend trail work where you get through front tyres and want a dependable, affordable replacement.

- Have the tyre fitted by a qualified tyre fitter — correct bead seating and balance matter as much off-road as they do on the road.
- This is a tube-type tyre and must be run with an inner tube; Vee Rubber tube 72-225-19 is the matching size for this fitment.
- Fit the tyre so the directional knob pattern rotates the correct way for a front wheel, following the arrow moulded into the sidewall.
- Use plenty of tyre lubricant and take care with levers during fitting — a pinched tube is the most common cause of a flat on a freshly fitted tyre.
- Check cold tyre pressure before every ride and set it to the pressure recommended by your bike's manufacturer for the conditions you are riding in.
- If you run low pressures for off-road grip, make sure a rim lock is fitted and kept tight so the tyre cannot spin on the rim and tear the valve stem.
- Scrub in a new tyre with a few easy laps or a gentle warm-up ride before pushing hard, so the release agent from the mould wears off the knobs.
- Inspect the tyre regularly for torn or missing knobs, cuts, embedded stones and sidewall damage, and replace it once the knobs are rounded off or badly chunked.
- Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight, fuels, solvents and electric motors, which accelerate rubber ageing.
