Vee Rubber Tyre VRM251 510-17 Tube Type

The Vee Rubber VRM251 is a dual purpose rear tyre in 510-17, built for riders who split their time between sealed roads and dirt. Its blocky, open tread pattern is designed to find grip on gravel, dirt and hardpack while remaining road legal for the ride out and back.

It uses a 4 ply rated casing and tube type construction, so an inner tube is required — Vee Rubber lists tubes 72-450-17 and 72-450-17H for this size. A practical, budget-conscious choice for trail bikes, ag bikes, dual sport commuters and older enduro machines running a 17-inch rear rim.

  • Dual purpose tread pattern for mixed sealed-road and off-road use
  • Rear fitment in 510-17 for 17-inch rear rims
  • Tube type (TT) construction — inner tube required
  • 4 ply rated casing
  • Road legal
  • Pairs with Vee Rubber tubes 72-450-17 and 72-450-17H (sold separately)
  • 1 x Vee Rubber VRM251 510-17 rear tyre (inner tube not included)

  • Have the tyre fitted and balanced by a qualified motorcycle tyre fitter — levering a tyre on without the right tools risks damaging the bead and the tube.
  • This is a tube type tyre: always fit a new inner tube (72-450-17 or 72-450-17H) and a sound rim band, and do not run it tubeless.
  • Check the tube valve stem sits square to the rim after fitting and again after the first ride; a leaning stem indicates the tyre has crept on the rim.
  • If your rim has a rim lock, tension it correctly and re-check it after the first ride, especially when running lower pressures off road.
  • Scrub the tyre in gently for the first 100 km or so — new tread and release agent reduce grip until the surface is worn in, so avoid hard acceleration, braking and lean angles.
  • Set pressures cold to your motorcycle manufacturer's recommended figures and check them regularly; tube type tyres lose pressure faster than tubeless.
  • After off-road use, hose off mud and grit and inspect the tread and sidewalls for cuts, splits, embedded stones and exposed cords.
  • Clean with mild soap and water only; keep petrol, solvents and silicone-based tyre shines off the tread and sidewalls.
  • Replace the tyre when the tread reaches the legal minimum depth or if the sidewall is cut, perished or bulging.
  • Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight, fuels, oils and electric motors, which produce ozone that degrades rubber.
