The Vance & Hines Shortshots Staggered is a complete two-into-two exhaust system for Harley-Davidson Softail models from 1986 to 2011, finished in chrome. It replaces the head pipes and mufflers in one go, giving the bike a short, staggered profile and the hot-rod exhaust note the Shortshots range is known for.
It suits Softail owners who want the sound and look of a full system without stepping up to boutique pricing — this system sits close to slip-on money while still changing the whole pipe. Full-length heat shields cover the system end to end, and the signature twin slash end treatment finishes the tips.

- Check your model year before ordering: 1986-2006 machines also require Vance & Hines V16925 O2 sensor bungs, sold separately.
- Install to the fitting instructions supplied with the system; leave all flange nuts, clamps and mounting brackets loose until the complete system is hung and aligned, then tighten evenly.
- Wipe all fingerprints, oil and packing residue off the chrome before the first start-up - contaminants baked into hot chrome can stain or blue the finish permanently.
- Only clean the system when it is completely cool to the touch.
- Clean with warm soapy water or a dedicated non-abrasive chrome polish and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads, oven cleaner and harsh solvents.
- Re-check flange nuts, clamp bolts and heat shield clamps after the first few heat cycles, then periodically - exhaust fasteners commonly loosen as the system settles.
- Investigate any new rattle or ticking promptly; it is usually a loose heat shield clamp or a blowing exhaust gasket rather than the muffler itself.
- After riding in the wet or on salted or coastal roads, rinse and dry the pipes, then apply a light metal protectant to help keep surface rust off the chrome.
- If the bike is stored for long periods, keep it dry and covered, and blank the outlets against moisture and nesting insects.
- If you need a lower noise level, fit the optional quiet baffle and check the exhaust noise requirements that apply in your state.
