The Vance & Hines Backslash 450 is a pair of slip-on mufflers built for blacked-out Milwaukee-Eight baggers running stretched saddlebags. The large 4.5-inch round bodies fill the bag exhaust cutouts and the outlets are cut to sit flush with the rear angle of the bags, so the long, low line of the bike carries all the way to the tail.
Sound comes from the patent-pending LS275 baffle, developed to give a deep rumble without giving up power. The matte black finish is chosen to blend with S-model and other dark-finish Touring bikes rather than stand out against them.

- Let the exhaust cool completely before fitting, removing or cleaning it.
- Fit using the supplied hardware and follow the instructions in the box; check that both mufflers sit flush with the saddlebag cutouts and clear the bags and bodywork before final tightening.
- Wipe off fingerprints, oil and grease with a mild degreaser before the first start — residue baked into a matte finish is very hard to remove later.
- Clean with mild soap, warm water and a soft cloth. Avoid chrome or metal polish, abrasives, solvents and wax, as these can gloss up or streak the matte black finish.
- Re-check clamps and mounting bolts after the first ride and periodically after that; heat cycling can allow fasteners to loosen.
- After fitting, check the head pipe joints for leaks (listen for hissing or look for soot marks) and re-seat the clamps if needed.
- Don't aim a pressure washer into the outlets or at the joints. If the mufflers get wet inside, run the engine briefly afterwards to dry them out.
- If the bike is stored for a long period, block the outlets against moisture and pests, and remove the blocks before starting.
