Radiator shrouds cop a hard time on a motocross bike — roost, tip-overs and the odd tangle with a bark buster all take their toll. Swapping tired, cracked or faded panels for a fresh set is one of the quickest ways to tidy up a used KX250F, and it's a sensible step before laying down a new graphics kit.

  • Fit to a clean bike: remove the old shrouds, check that all mounting tabs, grommets and fasteners are in good order, and replace anything damaged before fitting.
  • Start every fastener by hand and only nip them up once all bolts are located, so the panels sit naturally against the tank and frame without being pulled into place.
  • Do not overtighten mounting bolts — excessive torque can distort the panel or crack the mounting tab.
  • Re-check the mounting bolts after the first ride, then include them in your regular pre-ride bolt check.
  • If you are applying graphics, wash the shrouds and wipe the surface with a suitable prep solvent to remove any release agent or handling oils, then let them dry fully before laying the vinyl down.
  • Wash with warm water and a mild detergent using a sponge or soft brush; avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents, which can dull the finish or lift graphics edges.
  • Keep high-pressure washers well back from the panel edges and graphics, and avoid pointing the lance directly at seams.
  • Store spare panels flat and out of direct sunlight and heat so they do not warp before fitting.
  • Inspect regularly for stress cracks around the mounting points, particularly after a crash, and replace panels that have split rather than riding on them.
