The Twin Air Extreme Dust/Sand Air Filter (part 153156BR) is a direct-fit replacement element for the Suzuki DRZ400E, DRZ400S and DRZ400SM (2000-2024) and the Kawasaki KLX400R (2003-2005). It drops straight into the standard airbox cage, so no modification is needed.
This is the Extreme Dust/Sand specification from Twin Air's range, intended for riders working in the conditions that kill engines fastest: fine bulldust, beach and desert sand, and long dry-season trail days. It suits desert and outback adventure riding, dry enduro and dusty trail work where the standard element loads up quickly.
The foam element is serviceable, so it can be cleaned, re-oiled and refitted rather than thrown away after every dusty ride. Filter oil and filter grease are not supplied and should be purchased separately.

- Oil the element with a purpose-made foam air filter oil before fitting - a dry filter will not trap fine dust or sand.
- Work the oil evenly through the foam and squeeze out the excess so there are no dry patches and no oil pooling in the airbox.
- Apply a thin smear of filter grease to the sealing flange so the element seals against the airbox cage and dust cannot bypass it.
- Make sure the inside of the airbox and the intake tract are wiped clean before the filter goes back in.
- Inspect the filter after every ride in dusty or sandy conditions and service it far more often than you would for general trail use.
- Clean with a dedicated foam filter cleaner or biodegradable filter wash; avoid petrol, kerosene and harsh solvents, which attack the foam and the glued seams.
- Squeeze the filter to work cleaner and water through it rather than wringing or twisting it, then let it dry completely before re-oiling.
- Keep a spare filter on hand so one can be cleaned and dried while the other is in service.
- Store clean elements in a sealed bag, away from direct sunlight, fuel and solvents.
- Replace the element if the foam is torn, hardened, crumbling, or the sealing edge is damaged or distorted.
