- Route the lead away from exhaust headers, engine cases, and other high-heat surfaces to prevent insulation damage.
- Avoid routing across moving components such as steering heads, swingarm pivots, or throttle linkages where the cable could be pinched or abraded.
- Secure the lead at regular intervals using cable ties or conduit clips to prevent chafing against the frame or bodywork.
- Inspect the connector ends periodically for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent terminals — clean with electrical contact cleaner if required.
- Do not stretch or kink the lead sharply; maintain gentle curves when routing through tight spaces.
- If the lead is exposed to high-pressure washing, ensure connectors are fully seated and inspect afterwards for water ingress.
