The SHAD Top Master is the model-specific mounting frame that lets you fit a SHAD top case to a BMW R1300GS. Rather than a universal rack, it is designed around this bike's subframe and bodywork, so the fit is tidy and the load is carried where the motorcycle is designed to take it.
It suits R1300GS riders adding luggage for commuting, touring or adventure travel. Assembly and removal are straightforward, and the frame works with every SHAD and SHAD TERRA top case mounting plate, so you can change cases later without changing the fitting.
Note: the mounting plate is not part of this kit — it is supplied with SHAD top cases, except for the TERRA range where the plate is purchased separately. The OEM BMW grab handles must be removed before fitting.

- Fit using the SHAD instructions supplied with the kit, and remove the OEM BMW grab handles first — the frame will not sit correctly with them in place.
- Tighten all fasteners to the values given in the SHAD instructions; do not overtighten into the subframe mounting points.
- Add the mounting plate from your SHAD or SHAD TERRA top case to the frame before fitting the case, and check the case locks and latches fully onto the plate before riding.
- Re-check all mounting bolts after the first ride or two, then periodically as part of routine servicing — vibration can loosen hardware over time.
- Keep the load within the limits stated by SHAD for the case and by BMW for the rear subframe, and pack heavier items low and forward to limit the effect on handling.
- Remove the top case when it is not needed; leaving the frame fitted on its own reduces weight high and behind the rear axle.
- Clean the frame and plate with warm water and a mild detergent, then dry it; avoid harsh solvents, strong degreasers and high-pressure washing directed at the mounts.
- Keep the plate's locking mechanism free of grit and inspect the frame for corrosion, cracks or elongated bolt holes, especially after winter riding or gravel touring.
