- Before installing, lay the new cable alongside the old one to confirm length matches before removing the original.
- Route the cable through all guides and housing stops exactly as the original was routed to maintain correct geometry and avoid pinch points.
- After fitting, check that the brake lever engages firmly and fully releases — adjust the barrel adjuster at the lever or caliper as needed to set correct cable tension.
- Squeezing the lever several times after installation helps seat the cable in its housing; re-check tension afterwards and fine-tune if necessary.
- Inspect the cable periodically for kinking, fraying or corrosion, especially at the lever clamp and caliper anchor points.
- Keep the cable and housing free of mud and grit; wipe down with a clean damp cloth after riding in wet or dirty conditions.
- If the cable feels stiff or sluggish through its travel, the housing may be contaminated — replace both cable and housing at the same time.
- Store the bike indoors in a dry location to prevent cable corrosion between rides.
