The Alpinestars Supertech S-M3 Youth Fray is a purpose-built off-road helmet for junior riders, anatomically shaped around younger head profiles rather than scaled down from an adult shell. It is built for motocross, enduro and general off-road riding, and carries a long list of technologies borrowed from Alpinestars' adult helmet range.

A thermo-injected thermoplastic shell with varying wall thickness is paired with a multi-density EPS liner, keeping the ECE version to a claimed 1060 g so young necks aren't carrying unnecessary weight through a long moto. Ten intake and seven exhaust ports move air through the helmet, and the peak is shaped to feed air into those inlets.

Fit can be tuned as the rider grows: crown and cheek pads are available separately in different thicknesses, and because Youth Medium and Youth Large share the same EPS size, a YM helmet can be reconfigured towards a YL fit with pad changes. This listing is the glossy Black/Orange/Yellow Fluo colourway in the ECE 22.06 specification.

  • ECE 22.06 homologated youth off-road helmet
  • Claimed weight of 1060 g in ECE specification
  • Thermo-injected thermoplastic shell with varying thickness for impact protection and low weight
  • Multiple-density EPS liner placing the correct density in the correct area
  • Alpinestars patented low-friction coating on the inner EPS to help reduce rotational forces from oblique impacts
  • Inner and outer surfaces engineered to minimise the effects of oblique impacts
  • 10 intake ports and seven exhaust ports for high heat-transfer exchange
  • Peak shaped to direct airflow into the intake ports
  • Patented visor release system that releases at a pre-determined force to reduce loads on the rider's neck
  • Chin area optimised to meet an in-house Alpinestars chin test more severe than the homologation standard
  • Emergency Release System with removable cheek pads for safe removal while the helmet is still on
  • 3D contoured cheek pad foam with integrated hydration tube channels
  • 25 mm soft textile chin strap with stainless steel D-rings
  • Comfort liner made using recycled materials
  • Crown and cheek pads available as genuine spare parts in different thicknesses to tailor fit
  • Youth Medium and Youth Large share an EPS size, so a YM helmet can be adapted towards YL as the rider grows
  • Youth Small uses a dedicated smaller EPS shell for very young riders
  • Available in Youth Small, Youth Medium and Youth Large

  • Fit check: the helmet should sit snugly with no pressure points, and the cheek pads should firmly contact the cheeks — if there is excess room, fit thicker crown or cheek pads rather than sizing down.
  • Use the stainless steel D-rings every ride: thread the strap through both rings, back through the inner ring and pull firm so no more than a finger fits between strap and throat.
  • Growing riders in YM can be moved towards a YL fit by swapping to thinner genuine Alpinestars crown and cheek pads; the YS shell can only be adjusted via the cheek pads.
  • The Emergency Release System lets trained first responders pull the cheek pads out with the helmet still on — show it to parents and marshals, and do not remove or modify the release tabs.
  • Remove the comfort liner and cheek pads for cleaning; wash gently by hand in cool water with a mild soap, rinse well and air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Do not machine dry.
  • Clean the shell and peak with a soft damp cloth and mild soapy water only — petrol, solvents, thinners and harsh degreasers can attack the thermoplastic shell and the paint.
  • Rinse mud out of the 10 intake and seven exhaust ports after wet or muddy rides so they stay clear and the helmet keeps venting properly.
  • If you use a hydration pack, route the tube through the channels in the cheek pads and rinse the channels out afterwards to stop residue building up.
  • Refit the peak using only the supplied hardware and do not overtighten — the release system is designed to let the peak break away under load, so it must not be jammed or glued in place.
  • Store in a cool, dry place in a helmet bag, away from direct sunlight, fuel fumes and hot car boots; never rest it on a mirror or handlebar where it can fall.
  • Replace the helmet after any significant impact, even if there is no visible damage — the EPS liner and its low-friction coating are single-use by design.
  • Do not paint, apply stickers with aggressive adhesives, or drill the shell for accessories, as this can compromise the ECE 22.06 homologation.
