Clean the outer shell with a soft cloth dampened with mild soapy water; avoid petroleum-based solvents, acetone, petrol, or abrasive cleaners as these degrade the shell finish, graphics, and internal foam.
Clean the visor with a soft, lint-free cloth and mild detergent; never wipe a dry visor — grit will cause permanent scratching.
To fit the Pinlock EVO lens, align it with the two pins inside the visor and press firmly at each pin until it clicks into place; check that the perimeter silicone seal contacts the full inner surface of the visor to prevent fogging.
Remove the cheek pads and interior lining by pulling the EQR tabs and unclipping the liners; wash in warm water with a gentle detergent and allow to air-dry completely before reinstalling — do not tumble-dry.
Familiarise a riding companion with the EQR cheek pad removal tabs (labelled pull tabs on each side) before riding, so they can safely remove the helmet in an emergency without rotating the neck.
Store the helmet in its carry bag or box in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, fuels, and chemicals, which degrade EPS foam and shell resin over time.
Avoid placing the helmet on petrol tanks or near fuel, oil, or brake fluid — contact with these liquids can compromise structural integrity invisibly.
Inspect the visor lock, ventilation sliders, retention strap, and ratchet buckle before each ride; replace worn or damaged components through an authorised Shoei dealer.
Replace the helmet after any significant impact, even when no external damage is visible — EPS foam does not recover after a crash.
Shoei recommends retiring the helmet approximately five years from the date of first use, or sooner if the interior padding, retention system, or shell show signs of deterioration.
