Remove the inner liner and cheek pads before washing; hand-wash in lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air-dry away from direct heat.
Clean the outer shell with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap; avoid petroleum-based solvents, petrol or brake fluid as these can degrade the shell and paint.
Clean the outer visor and inner sun visor with a soft cloth and mild soapy water; never wipe a dry visor as dust particles will scratch the lens.
Lubricate the visor pivot mechanism periodically with a small amount of silicone-based lubricant if movement becomes stiff; do not use oil-based lubricants.
Inspect the chin curtain and breath guard after each season and replace if torn or compressed, as these directly affect wind and cold-air management.
Store the helmet in its carry bag in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, fuel vapours and chemical fumes, which can degrade shell integrity over time.
Replace the helmet immediately after any significant impact, even if external damage is not visible; internal EPS foam is a single-use protective material.
Shoei recommends retiring helmets after seven years from the date of manufacture regardless of condition, or sooner if the fit becomes loose or the interior shows signs of deterioration.
