The Rjays Athena Air is a women's textile motorcycle jacket built around a 600D polyester outer shell, with a waterproof and breathable membrane and a removable 100g thermal inner jacket. Air vents let you open the jacket up as the temperature climbs, so the one jacket carries you through most of the riding year rather than sitting in the cupboard for half of it.

Protection comes from CE-rated armour at the shoulders and elbows, with the elbow protectors adjustable for height to suit different arm lengths, plus an EVA rubber back pad. Stretch panels through the shoulders, chest and elbows keep the riding position comfortable, and waist and arm adjusters along with hip expander zips let you fine-tune the fit over layers.

Suited to commuting, weekend rides and light touring. The thermal liner can also be worn on its own off the bike, and a connection zip lets you attach the jacket to compatible riding pants. This listing is the Black/Pink colourway.

  • Before each ride, check that the shoulder and elbow armour and the EVA back pad are seated correctly in their pockets, and that no zips or adjusters are left undone.
  • Set the elbow protectors to the right height for your arm length before first use, then re-check the position after the first few rides.
  • Remove the armour, back pad and thermal inner jacket before any cleaning — never wash the jacket with the protectors still fitted.
  • Sponge or hand clean the outer shell with cool water and a mild soap; avoid solvents, bleach, fabric softeners and dry-cleaning chemicals, which can damage the membrane, laminates and reflective print.
  • Wipe the armour and back pad with a damp cloth and let them air dry fully before refitting.
  • Drip or hang dry on a wide hanger away from direct sunlight, radiators, heaters and tumble dryers; heat can distort the protectors and the waterproof membrane.
  • Close the air vents in wet or cold weather and open them in the heat — the vents are the main way you adjust the jacket across seasons.
  • Rinse off road salt, mud and insect residue soon after a ride so grit does not work into the outer shell and zips.
  • Keep zips, the pant connection zip and the hip expander zips clean and running freely; lubricate sparingly with a zip-safe lubricant if they start to bind.
  • Store the jacket on a broad hanger in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place with the thermal liner removed, rather than compressed in a bag.
  • Inspect the jacket after any crash or heavy impact and replace it, or any damaged armour, if the shell is abraded or torn — protective gear that has taken an impact should not be relied on again.
