  • Change the oil at the interval specified in your motorcycle's owner's manual — do not extend beyond the manufacturer's recommendation regardless of how the oil looks.
  • Warm the engine briefly before draining; warm oil flows more freely and carries more suspended contaminants out of the sump.
  • Check the oil level with the motorcycle on level ground (not on the side stand) and the engine off, using the sight glass or dipstick as appropriate for your model.
