The OptiMate weatherproof battery lead is a permanent, fit-and-forget connection for your bike's battery, letting you plug a charger or maintainer in without pulling the seat or reaching for battery clamps every time. The ring terminals stay bolted to the battery posts and the SAE connector tucks away under a rubber sealing cap until you need it.

It's built for powersport batteries and outdoor life: a heavy-duty SAE connector with a sealing cap and shroud keeps water and grit out of the contacts, and the cable stays flexible in very cold conditions rather than going stiff and brittle. An inline fuse protects the circuit.

A sensible upgrade for anyone running an OptiMate or other SAE-equipped charger, and for bikes that sit between rides — commuters over winter, weekend and track bikes, and anything parked outside.

  • Fit the ring terminals to the battery posts with the bike switched off — connect the positive (red) lead first, then the negative, and disconnect in the reverse order.
  • Route the cable clear of the exhaust, steering lock and any moving or pinching parts, and secure it with cable ties so it cannot chafe or hang loose.
  • Leave enough slack at the SAE end to reach an accessible spot, then tuck the connector under the seat or behind a side panel where you can get to it easily.
  • Keep the rubber sealing cap fitted over the SAE connector whenever a charger is not plugged in, so the contacts stay dry and free of grit.
  • Push the SAE connector fully home until it clicks before charging, and re-cap it as soon as you unplug.
  • If a connected charger shows no power, check the inline fuse first and replace it only with a fuse of the same 15A rating.
  • Check the terminal bolts for tightness and the contacts for corrosion at each service; clean corroded terminals and refit securely.
  • Wipe the lead and connector with a damp cloth only — avoid solvents, degreasers and high-pressure washing directed at the connector.
  • Do not use this lead for jump starting or to run accessories that draw more current than the fuse rating allows.
  • Replace the lead if the insulation is cut, cracked or heat-damaged, or if the SAE housing is broken.
