The OnGuard Terrier 8063 is a compact retractable cable lock built for the quick stop. Its 90cm, 2mm vinyl-coated cable coils back into the housing when you're done, so the whole thing drops into a jacket pocket, tank bag or under the seat without taking up meaningful space.
It's the sensible option for tethering a helmet, leathers or other gear to your bike while you grab a coffee — a visible, practical deterrent rather than a high-security chain. The combination is user settable, so there's no key to lose, and the raised dials can be worked with gloves on.
Best suited to low-risk, short-duration security. For overnight or high-risk parking, use a heavier disc lock or chain.

- Set your own combination while the lock is open, following the instructions supplied with the lock, then test it a few times before relying on it.
- Write the combination down somewhere separate from the bike — there is no key override on a combination lock.
- Scramble the dials after locking so the last-used numbers aren't left showing.
- Thread the cable through the helmet's chin bar or D-rings and around a fixed part of the bike, such as the frame or a footpeg hanger, rather than a removable component.
- Let the cable retract under control rather than releasing it suddenly, and keep it clear of grit so it feeds back cleanly into the housing.
- Wipe the cable and housing with a soft damp cloth and dry it after wet or salty rides; avoid solvents, degreasers and pressure washers.
- Check the vinyl coating occasionally — a split or frayed coating lets water reach the cable and can mark paint.
- Store the lock fully retracted in a dry pocket or bag rather than loose where it can be crushed or contaminated.
- Treat it as a short-stop deterrent only; use a heavier disc lock, chain or ground anchor for overnight or high-risk parking.
