- Inspect the outer shell, visor, retention strap and buckle before every ride for signs of cracking, fraying or damage.
- Replace the helmet immediately after any significant impact, even if no visible damage is present — internal EPS foam does not recover.
- Clean the outer shell with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap; avoid petroleum-based solvents, petrol, or spray lubricants, which degrade plastics and foam.
- Clean the visor with warm water and a gentle cloth to avoid scratching; never use abrasive cleaners.
- Remove and hand-wash any removable interior liner or cheek pads in cool water with mild detergent; allow to air-dry fully before reinserting.
- Do not machine-wash, tumble-dry, or apply heat to any part of the helmet.
- Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, fuels, and chemicals; UV exposure and chemical vapour can degrade shell materials over time.
- Check that the chin strap and buckle fasten securely before each ride; re-fit the helmet if the strap adjustment has slipped.
- As youth riders grow, re-check fit regularly — a helmet that has become loose no longer provides adequate protection.
- Refer to Nitro's guidance on helmet service life; most manufacturers recommend retirement after five years from date of manufacture regardless of condition.
