Clean the outer shell with a soft damp cloth and mild soap; avoid solvents, petrol, or abrasive cleaners, which can degrade the shell and graphics.
If the interior liner is removable, hand-wash it in lukewarm water with mild detergent and allow it to air-dry completely before reinserting — never use a tumble dryer.
Inspect the peak/visor for cracks or loose fixings before each ride and replace it if damaged, as a broken peak can catch wind at speed.
Check the chin strap and retention buckle for fraying or mechanical wear; a helmet with a compromised retention system should not be ridden in.
After any impact — even one with no visible external damage — retire the helmet, as EPS foam liner crush is not reversible and protection is reduced.
Store the helmet in a breathable helmet bag in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, fuel vapours, and heat sources, all of which accelerate material degradation.
Do not apply paint, stickers with solvent-based adhesives, or any aftermarket coatings to the shell, as these can compromise structural integrity.
General industry guidance recommends replacing helmets every five years from the date of manufacture, or sooner if the helmet has sustained impact, shows signs of wear, or the fit has changed.
