Motul Fork Oil Expert 20W Heavy is a synthetic hydraulic fluid for motorcycle front forks, supplied in a 1 litre bottle. It is formulated for use in upside-down (inverted), cartridge and standard conventional fork systems.

The 20W heavy viscosity grade sits at the firmer end of the common fork oil range, so it suits riders and workshops rebuilding or re-oiling forks where the manufacturer or suspension tuner specifies a heavier grade. Always check the fork oil grade, quantity and air gap called for by your bike's service manual before filling.

A practical choice for scheduled suspension servicing, fork seal replacement and general workshop stock.

  • Check your motorcycle's service manual for the specified fork oil grade, fill quantity and air gap before filling — do not rely on generic figures.
  • Use the same oil grade and quantity in both fork legs so damping stays balanced side to side.
  • Drain the old oil completely and clean the fork internals before refilling; mixing old and new oil reduces damping consistency.
  • Avoid mixing with fork oils of other viscosities or brands unless you are deliberately blending to a tuner's specification.
  • After refilling, stroke the fork slowly several times to purge trapped air, then set the oil level (air gap) with the fork fully compressed and the spring removed, as per the manual.
  • Replace fork oil at the service interval in your owner's manual, and whenever fork seals are replaced or the oil looks dark, milky or contaminated.
  • Wipe the fork stanchions and dust seals down after wet or dusty rides to keep grit away from the seals.
  • Store the bottle sealed and upright in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, and keep it away from children and pets.
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact — wear gloves and wash any splashes off with soap and water.
  • Dispose of used fork oil through a council oil recycling point or workshop waste collection; never pour it down a drain or into the ground.
