- Before fitting, lightly dust the inside of the tyre and the outer surface of the tube with talcum powder to reduce friction and prevent pinching during mounting.
- Partially inflate the tube just enough to give it shape before placing it inside the tyre; this helps prevent folds and creases.
- Ensure the tyre bead is fully seated in the rim well before inflating to avoid trapping and pinching the tube between the bead and rim.
- Inflate to the tyre manufacturer's recommended pressure for your tyre size, load, and riding conditions; never exceed the maximum pressure marked on the tyre sidewall.
- If a flat is suspected, partially inflate the tube and submerge it in water to locate leaks before deciding whether to patch or replace.
- Store unused tubes loosely coiled or in original packaging; avoid sharp folds or creases that can weaken the rubber.
- Keep stored tubes away from direct sunlight, heat sources, petroleum products, and ozone-generating equipment such as electric motors, as these accelerate rubber degradation.
- Use plastic tyre levers during fitting and removal where possible to minimise the risk of pinching or puncturing the tube.
