The Metzeler Roadtec 01 is the Italian brand's sport-touring road tyre, developed around three priorities: grip on wet and low-friction surfaces, longer mileage, and consistent behaviour across a wide range of machines and riding styles. This listing is for the 100/90-19 M/C 57V TL front, a cross-ply size intended for bikes that specify a 19-inch non-radial front fitment.

Because this size is part of the Roadtec 01 X-Ply family rather than the radial range, it uses a carbon-black based compound with a silica content of around 30 per cent. The construction generates working heat quickly, and special resins in the compound lift adhesive properties for wet-road performance — useful on commuter routes, cold mornings and worn tarmac, as well as longer touring runs.

Sold individually as a single front tyre. Fitting and balancing should be carried out by a qualified tyre technician.

  • Sport-touring front tyre from the Metzeler Roadtec 01 range
  • Size 100/90-19 M/C, load index 57 (230 kg), speed rating V (up to 240 km/h)
  • Tubeless (TL) construction for tubeless-rated rims
  • Cross-ply (X-Ply) casing, as indicated by the non-radial size designation
  • X-Ply carbon-black based compound with roughly 30% silica content
  • Uses heat generated by the casing to reach operating temperature quickly
  • Special compound resins to improve adhesion and wet-weather grip
  • Front tread pattern with a high number of transverse grooves for water drainage and mechanical grip on the asphalt
  • Groove orientation follows the wear-wave lines so the tread pattern works through to the end of tyre life
  • Metzeler quotes up to 10% more mileage for the Roadtec 01 range than the Roadtec Z8 Interact
  • Shorter, wider footprint to spread load and reduce compound stress
  • Blackwall finish
  • One Metzeler Roadtec 01 100/90-19 57V TL front tyre

  • Have the tyre fitted and balanced by a qualified motorcycle tyre technician; this is a tubeless (TL) tyre and must only be fitted to a rim rated for tubeless use.
  • Fit a new valve (or new rim tape and tube where the wheel requires a tube) at the same time as the tyre.
  • Observe the rotation direction and any fitting markings moulded into the sidewall.
  • Ride gently for the first 100 km or so — avoid hard acceleration, heavy braking and deep lean angles until the release agents have scrubbed off the tread surface.
  • Check and adjust pressures at least fortnightly with the tyres cold, using the pressures specified in your motorcycle's owner's manual or on the swingarm/chain-guard placard — not the maximum pressure moulded on the sidewall.
  • Adjust pressures for a pillion or luggage in line with the manufacturer's loaded-riding figures.
  • Do not exceed the tyre's 57 load index (230 kg) or V speed rating (240 km/h).
  • Inspect regularly for cuts, bulges, embedded stones or nails, uneven wear and sidewall damage; have any damage assessed by a tyre professional before riding.
  • Replace the tyre before the tread wear indicators are reached; Australian road rules require at least 1.5 mm of tread depth across the tread pattern.
  • Clean with water and mild soap only — keep petrol, solvents, brake fluid and tyre-shine dressings off the tread and sidewalls.
  • Store spare tyres upright in a cool, dry, dark place away from direct sunlight, electric motors and sources of ozone.
  • Wet grip and cold-weather performance are strongest once the tyre is up to working temperature; allow a few kilometres of riding before pressing on.
