The K&N KN-140 is a cartridge-style powersports oil filter built for four-stroke Yamaha dirt bikes, enduros and sport ATVs. It uses a high-flow premium filter medium with uniform pleats to trap harmful contaminants while allowing oil to move freely through the engine's lubrication system.
It suits riders running high-end synthetic oils, where free flow and consistent filtration matter — from weekend trail and motocross use through to racers and engine builders who service their own machines. The KN-140 is a direct cartridge replacement and is also referenced as an HF140 equivalent.

- Check the KN-140 against your bike's model and year before fitting — cartridge dimensions must match the filter housing.
- Replace the oil filter at the oil change interval specified in your owner's manual; competition and dusty-condition use generally calls for more frequent changes.
- Drain the engine oil and remove the filter cover before withdrawing the old cartridge, keeping the cover bolts and any spacers or springs in order for reassembly.
- Renew the filter cover O-ring at the same time and smear it with clean engine oil before refitting so it seats without pinching.
- Fit the new cartridge in the same orientation as the one removed, then tighten cover bolts evenly to the torque figure in your service manual — do not overtighten.
- Refill with fresh oil, run the engine briefly, then shut down, check for leaks around the cover and re-check the oil level.
- This is a disposable cartridge filter — it is not washable, re-oilable or reusable, so do not attempt to clean and refit it.
- Store spares in their sealed packaging in a cool, dry place so the media and gasket stay clean and uncontaminated.
- Dispose of used filters and oil through a recycling or waste-oil collection facility rather than in general waste.
