- Clean the outer shell with a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water; never use petroleum-based solvents, paint thinners, or abrasive cleaners as these will damage the polycarbonate shell and degrade the graphic finish.
- Clean the face shield with a clean damp cloth — do not wipe a dry shield as this causes micro-scratches that impair vision; replace the shield if it becomes heavily scratched or crazed.
- Remove the interior liner and cheek pads before washing; hand-wash in cool water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and allow to air-dry completely before reinstalling.
- Inspect the D-ring closure system before each ride and confirm it is fastened correctly with no signs of fraying, corrosion, or damage to the rings.
- Store the helmet in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, fuels, and solvents; prolonged UV exposure and chemical contact degrade both the EPS liner and the shell.
- Do not rest the helmet on a fuel tank or hot engine surfaces, and avoid stacking heavy objects on top of it in storage.
- If the helmet sustains any impact — including a drop from handlebar height — retire it from use; EPS damage is internal and not visible to the naked eye.
- HJC recommends retiring the helmet after five years from the date of manufacture, or earlier if the interior shows compression, the shell is cracked or damaged, or the retention system is compromised.
