- Confirm your bike's model year and engine details against the fitment before opening the pack, as gasket sets are year-specific.
- Treat all gaskets and o-rings as single-use items — fit new ones every time the top end comes apart rather than reusing old sealing surfaces.
- Clean mating faces on the cylinder, head and cases thoroughly before assembly, taking care not to gouge the alloy with scrapers or abrasive discs.
- Check that the surfaces are flat, dry and free of oil or old sealant residue so the new gaskets can seat evenly.
- Follow the manufacturer's service manual for torque values and tightening sequence when refitting the cylinder and head — do not guess or overtighten.
- Re-check head and cylinder fasteners after the first heat cycle if your service manual calls for it.
- Store unused gaskets flat in their packaging, in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight, fuel and solvents, so they don't distort or harden.
- After the rebuild, run the engine gently through an initial break-in period and inspect for coolant, oil or exhaust leaks around the base, head and exhaust flange before hard riding.
