- Route the cable away from the exhaust, engine heat sources, and any moving parts such as the steering head and throttle cables.
- Secure the cable along the frame using cable ties or existing routing clips to prevent chafing against metal edges.
- Connect to a fused circuit on the motorcycle — do not wire directly to the battery without an inline fuse.
- Switch the ignition off before connecting or disconnecting the cable from the GPS unit.
- Inspect the cable and connector periodically for signs of wear, cracking, or corrosion, particularly after long-distance touring or wet-weather riding.
- Keep the connector and GPS port dry; if moisture enters the connection, allow both to dry fully before use.
- Do not force the connector — the Garmin proprietary connector is keyed and seats positively when aligned correctly.
