The Garmin zumo XT3 is a purpose-built motorcycle navigator with a 4.7-inch touchscreen designed to be read and operated on the move. It carries an IPX7 water rating and a MIL-STD-810 drop rating, so it is made to cope with rain, weather and constant handlebar vibration.
It suits road riders, tourers and adventure riders who want more than turn-by-turn directions. Alongside navigation, the zumo XT3 records ride data such as speed, distance, lean angle and acceleration, and pairs with the Garmin Tread app for route planning, ride sharing, group tracking, live traffic and weather, and phone notifications.
Adventurous Routing lets you choose curves, hills and scenic roads over the fastest line, satellite imagery and downloadable maps come with no subscription required, and the navigator expands with Garmin accessories including the zumo R1 radar system, a wired handlebar controller, Group Ride Radio and compatible inReach satellite communicators (each sold separately).

- Mount the navigator securely to the handlebar or cradle and check the mount fasteners regularly, as sustained vibration can loosen hardware over time.
- Clean the touchscreen and housing with a soft, damp cloth; avoid solvents, petrol, chain cleaner and abrasive cloths, which can damage the screen coating and seals.
- The device is rated IPX7, but dry the housing and charging or cradle contacts after wet rides before charging or storing, and rinse off road salt and mud with clean fresh water.
- Download maps, satellite imagery and software updates over Wi-Fi before you leave, as large downloads are impractical on the road.
- Keep the Garmin Tread app on your paired smartphone up to date so route sync, group tracking, traffic and weather features work as intended.
- Plan and sync routes in the Tread app or the visual route planner before riding, and set up your incident notification contact in advance rather than at the roadside.
- Group ride tracking through the Tread app needs mobile coverage; for remote areas use the Group Ride Radio accessory and Y-adapter, or a compatible inReach communicator (each sold separately).
- Drag race timing, lap time review and Outdoor Maps+ content require active subscriptions, so check these are current before a track day or off-road trip.
- Charge the device before extended storage, then store it indoors in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight rather than leaving it on the bike.
- Operate the navigator when stopped where possible, or use the wired handlebar controller accessory (sold separately) so you can keep both hands on the bars.
