Clean the screen and housing with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid solvents, alcohol-based cleaners or abrasive materials, which can damage the display coating and seals.
After riding in rain, wipe the device dry before inserting or removing the microSD card. IPX7 protects against brief water immersion to 1 metre; avoid prolonged submersion.
Keep firmware and maps current: connect to a Wi-Fi network and follow the on-screen update prompts, or connect to a computer via the charging/data cable and use Garmin Express to download updates.
To extend battery lifespan, avoid storing the device fully discharged for extended periods. For long-term storage, charge to approximately 50% and keep in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Before each ride, verify the handlebar mount clamp is fully seated and the locking lever is engaged. Check all mounting hardware periodically and re-torque if loosened by vibration.
Route the motorcycle power cable clear of moving parts such as the steering head, and secure with cable ties at regular intervals to prevent chafing and vibration wear.
Insert or remove the microSD card only when the device is powered off to prevent data corruption.
Pair with the Garmin Tread smartphone app (free download) to access real-time traffic, weather and incident notifications, and to plan and sync routes before riding.
The device supports Wi-Fi software updates; Garmin's security update commitment extends to at least 2028-02-16 — keep the device updated to receive these patches.
