The Garmin Montana 710 is a rugged handheld navigator built around a large 5-inch touchscreen that stays usable with gloves on. Routable mapping covers both sealed roads and trails, so the one device works for adventure riding, four-wheel driving, hiking, cycling, kayaking and ATV use.

It's aimed at riders and outdoor users who want proper off-grid navigation rather than a phone in a bracket. Preloaded worldwide topographic mapping, subscription-free satellite imagery over Wi-Fi, multi-GNSS positioning and ABC sensors give you a clear picture of terrain and conditions, while MIL-STD 810 testing for thermal shock, water and vibration means it's built to stay on the handlebars in poor weather.

Power is flexible: run the supplied rechargeable lithium-ion pack, drop back to AA batteries when you're a long way from a charger, or switch to expedition mode for extended off-grid tracking. Mounts are sold separately, so you can set it up for a motorcycle, ATV, car, boat or RV.

  • Charge the lithium-ion battery pack fully before your first ride using a standard USB-C cable, and top it up before long trips.
  • Carry a set of AA batteries as a backup on extended trips — the Montana 710 will run on them, but they are not supplied.
  • Use expedition mode when you're off-grid for days at a time to stretch tracking to more than two weeks between charges.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi to download satellite imagery, map updates and any Outdoor Maps+ content before you leave home, rather than relying on mobile coverage in the field.
  • Use the Garmin Explore app to plan routes and manage waypoints, and sync after each ride to back up your trip data.
  • The unit is water-resistant, but rinse the housing with fresh water and wipe it dry after exposure to salt spray, mud or dust; avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners on the touchscreen.
  • Keep the USB-C port cover firmly seated whenever the device is not charging to maintain its water resistance.
  • Fit the device to a compatible Montana mount (sold separately) and check the mount and fasteners periodically — handlebar vibration can loosen hardware over time.
  • Remove the battery or AA cells and store the unit in a cool, dry place if it won't be used for an extended period.
  • Avoid leaving the navigator mounted in direct sun on a parked bike for long periods, and give the screen a wipe with a soft damp cloth to keep it responsive with gloves on.
