The Garmin BC 50 is a wireless reversing camera that sends a live view of what is behind your vehicle to a compatible Garmin sat nav whenever you select reverse. It mounts to the number plate using the supplied bracket and pairs wirelessly, so there is no need to run a video cable the length of the vehicle.

It suits riders and drivers who tow, or who reverse longer rigs such as campers, trucks and trailers, where the wireless link has to carry a useful distance. The camera is built for outdoor use with an IP67 weather-resistant housing, and a wide viewing angle helps you pick up obstacles and traffic approaching from behind.

The BC 50 draws power from a switched source such as the reverse lights, so professional installation is recommended.

  • Wire the camera to a switched power source such as the reverse lights so it activates only when reverse is selected; professional installation is recommended.
  • Fit the camera to the supplied number plate mount and aim it so the ground immediately behind the vehicle sits in the lower part of the frame, then confirm the view on the sat nav before finishing the install.
  • Pair the camera with your compatible Garmin sat nav following the on-screen prompts, and re-pair if you change or reset the sat nav.
  • Keep the wireless path as clear as practical — metal bodywork, trailer walls and long distances beyond the 15 m working range will degrade the link.
  • Clean the lens with a soft, damp cloth and dry it gently; do not use solvents, abrasives or scouring pads, which can haze or scratch the lens.
  • The IP67 rating covers rain, dust and road spray, but avoid aiming a high-pressure washer directly at the camera, transmitter or cable joins.
  • Check the mount fasteners, transmitter mounting and wiring connections periodically, particularly after towing, corrugated roads or off-road use.
  • Protect and seal any wiring runs and connectors against water ingress and chafing, and keep the transmitter away from heat sources and moving parts.
  • Check for Garmin software updates for your paired sat nav so camera support and performance stay current.
  • If the image drops out or the picture is poor, verify the power feed at the reverse lights, the pairing status and the lens for dirt or condensation before assuming a fault.
