The All Balls Racing FS101-0220 is a fuel tap (petcock) repair kit for the Yamaha XVS650 V-Star Classic 2008-2010 and V-Star Custom 2008-2016. It renews the wearing parts inside the tank-mounted fuel valve so you can restore correct fuel shut-off and flow without buying a complete assembly.

It suits home mechanics and workshops dealing with the usual symptoms of an aged petcock — weeping around the lever, fuel passing when the tap is off, or restricted flow — on a bike that is otherwise sound. Supplied as a model-specific kit, so the parts are matched to the standard Yamaha valve rather than being a universal fit.

  • Turn the fuel tap off and allow the engine to cool before starting work; drain or lower the fuel level so the tank can be handled safely.
  • Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area away from naked flames, sparks, heat sources and running electrical equipment, and keep a suitable extinguisher nearby.
  • Catch residual fuel in an approved container and dispose of it and any fuel-soaked rags through your local waste facility, not the bin or drain.
  • Note the orientation of the existing valve parts as you dismantle it so the new components go back the same way.
  • Clean the valve body and the in-tank filter screen before reassembly, and replace the screen if it is torn or clogged.
  • Fit the new seals dry unless the service manual specifies otherwise; petroleum greases and strong solvents can swell or degrade fuel-rated rubber.
  • Tighten fasteners evenly and only to the figures in the Yamaha service manual for this model — overtightening distorts the sealing faces and causes leaks.
  • After refitting, refill the tank and check the tap and all joints for weeping with the engine off, then again at idle, before riding.
  • If the bike is stored for long periods, turn the tap off and consider draining the carburettor to reduce fuel varnishing and seal deterioration.
  • Recheck for leaks after the first ride and at each service; a fuel tap that seeps or passes fuel with the tap off should be attended to immediately.
