The D.I.D 428D is a standard, non-sealed (non-O-ring) drive chain supplied in a 136-link length. It uses solid bushings in place of curled bushings, which improves strength and wear resistance over conventional unsealed chains while keeping friction low.

Built from steel alloy and rated to 1918kg tensile strength, the 428D suits small-capacity road, trail and ATV applications up to 125cc. It's a practical replacement chain for riders who want dependable, no-frills drive performance and are happy to lube and adjust an unsealed chain regularly.

Check your bike's required pitch and link count before ordering; excess links can be removed to suit your sprocket combination.

  • Confirm your machine's required chain pitch and link count before fitting; remove any excess links to suit your sprocket combination.
  • Fit and join the chain using the correct D.I.D connecting link and tools for this pitch, and follow your motorcycle or ATV manufacturer's fitting procedure.
  • As an unsealed chain, the 428D has no O-rings to retain grease, so it needs cleaning and lubricating more often than a sealed chain — particularly after riding in wet, dusty or muddy conditions.
  • Clean with a purpose-made chain cleaner or kerosene and a soft chain brush; avoid harsh solvents, wire brushes and high-pressure washers, which can damage plates and drive grit into the rollers.
  • Dry the chain thoroughly, then apply chain lube to the inner side of the rollers and links while the chain is warm, and wipe away the excess so it doesn't fling onto the wheel and tyre.
  • Check and adjust chain slack to the figure specified in your vehicle's owner's manual, and re-check tension after the first rides on a new chain as it initially beds in.
  • Inspect regularly for tight or kinked links, worn or damaged rollers, and uneven stretch; replace the chain if any of these appear.
  • Replace the chain and both sprockets together where possible — a new chain on worn sprockets will wear out quickly.
  • After washing the bike or riding in the rain, dry and re-lubricate the chain promptly to prevent surface rust.
  • Store spare chain lightly oiled in a dry place away from moisture and corrosive chemicals.
