Underneath, the Groundtrax® rubber outsole uses an asymmetric tread that changes across the foot according to the levers you operate while riding, so you get grip and stability on the pegs and genuine walking comfort on the footpath. Protection is handled discreetly: rigid inserts sit over the malleolus with soft D-Foam on the inner side, and a PU gear shifter guard takes the wear from the shift lever. Brush off loose dust and grit after riding, then spot-clean the fabric and microfibre upper with a soft brush or damp cloth and a little mild soap.
Do not machine wash, tumble dry or use solvents, petrol, bleach or strong degreasers — these can damage the upper, the mesh liner and the bonding of the sole.
Air dry at room temperature away from direct sunlight, heaters and exhaust pipes; forced heat can shrink or harden the materials.
If the shoes get soaked, remove the Ortholite footbed, loosen the laces fully and let both the shoe and footbed dry separately before wearing again.
Note that these are ventilated shoes, not waterproof — expect water to come through in sustained rain and plan accordingly.
Tuck the lace ends under the elastic retainer every ride so they cannot catch on the shift lever, footpeg or chain.
Check the PU shifter guard, the malleolus inserts and the lace eyelets periodically for wear, and retire the shoes if the protective inserts are cracked or loose or the upper is torn.
Inspect the Groundtrax® outsole for wear; once the asymmetric tread is worn smooth, grip on the pegs and underfoot is reduced.
Store in a cool, dry, ventilated place, ideally loosely laced and lightly stuffed to hold their shape — avoid sealed plastic bags and damp garages.
Replace the footbed if it flattens out over time rather than trying to revive it, and never dry the shoes on a direct heat source.
