The Falco Aviator is a brown full-grain leather riding boot built for riders who want proper protection without looking like they've stepped off a racetrack. The oil-treated leather upper, reinforced toe and heel and D3O-backed ankle cups sit behind a relaxed, boot-shaped silhouette that works just as well off the bike as on it.

A High-Tex waterproof membrane keeps the weather out on wet commutes, while the lace-up upper with dual front zips means you can set the fit once and then get in and out quickly. A direct-injected high-grip rubber sole handles wet servo forecourts and gravel driveways as confidently as it does the footpeg.

Best suited to daily commuting, urban riding and casual weekend rides where a low-key look matters as much as protection.

  • Do the laces up to your preferred fit first, then close both front zips so the closure sits flat against the boot and the pullers are secured before you ride.
  • Break the boots in over a few shorter rides before a long day in the saddle; full-grain leather softens and moulds to the foot with use.
  • After riding, brush or wipe off road grime with a soft damp cloth. Avoid petrol, solvents, harsh degreasers and stiff wire brushes on the leather.
  • Condition the leather periodically with a product suited to oil-treated full-grain leather to keep it supple and water-resistant; test on a small hidden area first.
  • If the boots get soaked, loosen the laces, open the zips and let them dry naturally at room temperature. Keep them away from heaters, exhausts, hair dryers and direct sunlight, as forced heat hardens leather and can damage the waterproof membrane.
  • Keep the zips clean. Grit in the teeth is the most common cause of zip failure, so brush the track out regularly and use a suitable zip lubricant rather than forcing a sticking slider.
  • Do not machine wash, tumble dry or soak the boots; the bonded construction and membrane are not designed for it.
  • Store upright in a cool, dry, ventilated place, loosely stuffed with paper or boot trees to hold their shape. Avoid sealed plastic bags, which trap moisture.
  • Inspect the sole tread and the toe, heel and ankle reinforcements regularly, and replace the boots after a significant impact or crash even if the damage is not obvious.
