The Arai Tour-X5 Discovery Blue is a ground-up redesign of Arai's adventure helmet, built around the brand's rounded, smooth shell philosophy so that impact energy is more likely to glance off rather than be absorbed in one spot. It is aimed at adventure and dual-sport riders who cover long highway kilometres and still want a helmet that works with goggles once the tar runs out.
The headline change is the new VAS-A visor system, derived from the VAS-V system developed for the RX-7V, which sits lower to increase glancing-off surface area while making the visor and peak far easier to remove and refit. Because the visor and peak come off without tools, the same helmet converts between adventure, off-road and on-road configurations. The Max Vision visor accepts a Pinlock insert, and a redesigned nose deflector keeps goggle use straightforward.
Ventilation is all-new, with a 3D Arai logo forehead duct, a three-position chin vent and multiple rear exhausts, while the interior is fully removable, washable and adjustable through Arai's peel-away pad layers and Facial Contour System cheek pads. Supplied here in the Discovery Blue graphic, size MD, and approved to ECE 22.06.

- Clean the shell, peak and vents with lukewarm water and a mild soap on a soft cloth; never use petrol, thinners, benzene, solvent- or ammonia-based cleaners, as these can damage the shell and visor.
- Wash the visor in mild soapy water and dry with a soft cloth — never wipe a dry, gritty visor, as trapped dust will scratch it.
- Handle the Pinlock insert by its edges to protect the silicone seal, and clean it gently with a damp soft cloth only.
- Remove the interior and hand wash the pads in lukewarm water with a mild soap, rinse thoroughly, then air dry in the shade; do not use a dryer, heater or direct sunlight.
- Fine-tune the fit by peeling away the 5mm layers from the cheek pads, ear cups and temple pads and by adjusting the pad at the rear of the crown pad, rather than moving to a looser size.
- When switching between the adventure, off-road and on-road configurations, check that the visor, peak and side pods are fully seated and latched before riding.
- Fit a comms unit using the speaker pockets and the flat sections on the sides of the shell; do not cut, drill or modify the shell or EPS liner, and avoid solvent-based adhesives, paints or stickers.
- Store the helmet in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and away from fuel and exhaust fumes; do not hang it on a mirror or bar end, or leave it resting on the seat or tank where it can fall.
- Fasten the chinstrap snugly for every ride and inspect the strap, visor mechanism and vent parts periodically for wear or damage.
- Replace the helmet after any significant impact, even where there is no visible damage — the ventilation parts are designed to break away and the shell and liner may be compromised.
