- Before beginning, ensure the fuel tap is in the OFF or PRI position and the fuel tank is drained or fuel supply isolated to prevent spillage.
- Clean the exterior of the fuel tap thoroughly before disassembly to prevent contamination of internal components during the rebuild.
- Note the orientation and order of all internal components before removal — photographing the disassembly steps is recommended.
- Replace all seals and diaphragm components included in the kit; do not reuse worn originals even if they appear serviceable.
- Lubricate new O-rings lightly with clean petrol or a compatible fuel-safe lubricant before installation — do not use petroleum-based grease.
- After reassembly, check for fuel leaks with the tap in the ON position before returning the motorcycle to service.
- Test vacuum operation (where applicable to ON/RES/PRI petcock types) to confirm the diaphragm is correctly seated and functioning.
- Dispose of old seals, fuel residue, and cleaning solvents in accordance with local regulations.
