- Turn the fuel tap to the OFF position and allow the engine to run until it stalls before beginning any petcock disassembly.
- Drain or isolate the fuel tank to prevent spillage before removing the petcock from the tank.
- Clean the petcock body thoroughly and inspect it for cracks, stripped threads, or corrosion before fitting new components — do not rebuild a damaged housing.
- Lubricate any rubber seals included in the kit with a small amount of clean petrol or a fuel-safe lubricant before installation to ease fitting and reduce the risk of tearing.
- Do not overtighten fasteners when reassembling the petcock; hand-snug plus a small turn is generally sufficient for soft-seated fuel fittings.
- After reassembly, turn the tap to ON or RES and check all joints for leaks before starting the engine.
- Store unused kit components in a sealed bag away from direct sunlight and heat, as rubber parts degrade when exposed to UV and high temperatures.
- If the ATV is to be stored for an extended period, consider draining the carburettor and tank to prevent gum deposits from forming in the freshly rebuilt petcock.
