A complete steel drive kit from AFAM for the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M, covering model years 2015 onwards. The kit pairs a front sprocket, rear sprocket and drive chain that have been matched to work together, so the whole driveline is renewed in one go rather than mixing new parts with worn ones.

AFAM has been producing final drive components for more than 40 years and controls the manufacture of its own chains and both front and rear sprockets in-house, which allows the three parts to be specified as a set for a given machine.

Fitting is a workshop job: have the kit installed by a qualified mechanic, and always replace the chain and both sprockets together rather than mixing new parts with worn ones.
Set chain slack and rear wheel alignment to the figures given in the Yamaha owner's or service manual for your model, then re-check after the first few hundred kilometres while the new chain beds in.
Use a correctly rated joining link and a proper riveting tool if the chain is cut to length; never re-use an old link or fit a clip link where a rivet link is specified.
Clean the chain with a cleaner labelled as safe for sealed (O/X-ring) chains and a soft brush. Avoid petrol, harsh solvents, wire brushes and pressure washers, which can damage the seals and flush out the factory grease.
Lubricate with a chain lube suited to sealed chains, ideally while the chain is still warm after a ride, and allow it to soak in before riding again.
After wet, sandy or muddy rides, or after washing the bike, dry the chain and re-lubricate to prevent surface corrosion.
Inspect chain tension, wheel alignment and sprocket tooth condition at the intervals set out in Yamaha's service schedule.
Replace the kit if you find tight spots or kinked links, hooked or pointed sprocket teeth, or slack that can no longer be adjusted within the manual's range.
Before long-term storage, clean and lubricate the chain and keep the bike in a dry, well-ventilated area.
