- Always replace the chain and both sprockets together — fitting a new chain to worn sprockets (or vice versa) accelerates wear on all components.
- Before fitting, check the swingarm and front sprocket area for wear on mounting surfaces and correct any issues first.
- Lubricate the chain with a quality motorcycle chain lubricant after installation and at regular intervals; apply to the inner side of the chain while the wheel is rotated slowly.
- Avoid petroleum-based solvents (petrol, WD-40) on O-ring or X-ring chains as these can damage the seals; use a dedicated chain cleaner.
- Do not direct a pressure washer jet at the chain, as this strips internal lubrication from the links.
- After washing, allow the chain to dry then re-lubricate before riding.
- Check chain tension regularly and adjust to the slack specification in the Kawasaki Z1000 service manual; incorrect tension causes premature sprocket and chain wear.
- Inspect sprocket teeth periodically for hooking, chipping or uneven wear; hooked teeth are a sign the sprocket is due for replacement.
- Break in the new drive-train gradually — avoid sustained hard acceleration or aggressive wheelies for the first 200–300 km to allow components to seat correctly.
- Store an unused kit in its original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and corrosive chemicals.
