- Thoroughly clean the mating faces of both the carburettor body and float bowl before fitting — any debris or old gasket material will prevent a proper seal.
- Do not reuse the old gasket; fit a new 46-5019 whenever the float bowl is removed for service.
- Lubricate the gasket lightly with clean petrol or a fuel-safe assembly lubricant to ease installation and reduce the risk of tearing.
- Tighten float bowl screws evenly and progressively — overtightening will distort or cut through the gasket and cause leaks.
- After reassembly, turn the fuel tap on and inspect around the float bowl for any sign of seepage before starting the engine.
- If a leak is detected after installation, re-check screw torque and gasket seating before assuming a defective part.
- Store unused gaskets in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, ozone sources (electric motors) and fuel vapour, as these degrade rubber compounds over time.
