- Inspect the adaptor and receiver hitch for wear, corrosion or deformation before each towing use.
- Ensure the locking pin or bolt is correctly installed and secured before towing — never tow without the retaining fastener in place.
- Check and retighten all mounting fasteners to the vehicle manufacturer's specified torque after the first few uses and periodically thereafter.
- Keep the receiver tube and adaptor shank clean and free of mud, debris and built-up grime, particularly after off-road use.
- Apply a light coating of anti-seize compound or corrosion-resistant grease to the shank before insertion to prevent the adaptor from seizing inside the receiver tube.
- After exposure to water, mud or salt, rinse and dry the component to slow surface corrosion.
- Store the adaptor in a dry location when not in use to minimise rust and corrosion.
- If any cracking, bending or significant corrosion is found on inspection, replace the adaptor before towing.
