  • Measure the length and circumference of the existing packing layer inside the canister before cutting, to avoid waste.
  • Remove all old packing material and clean the inside of the canister of carbon deposits before fitting new material.
  • Wrap the mat snugly around the perforated inner core, ensuring even coverage with no overlapping gaps that could create hot spots.
  • Secure the mat firmly before reassembling the canister end caps to prevent it shifting under exhaust gas flow.
  • Do not handle with bare hands if the mat contains fibreglass-type material — wear gloves and eye protection during installation.
  • Allow the exhaust to cool completely before beginning any repacking work.
  • After installation, run the engine briefly and check for any unusual exhaust noise that may indicate uneven packing or a poor canister seal.
