Periodically apply a dry PTFE or dedicated lock lubricant to the lock mechanism to keep it operating smoothly and prevent internal corrosion.
Lubricate chain links with a light oil or chain lubricant to prevent rust, particularly after wet-weather use.
After exposure to rain or salt air, dry the chain and lock thoroughly before storing.
Store in a dry location; avoid leaving the chain damp in a bag or pannier for extended periods.
Inspect chain links and the lock shackle regularly for signs of corrosion, stretching, or damage — replace immediately if the integrity is compromised.
