- Remove the old grips and thoroughly clean and degrease the left handlebar and the throttle tube before fitting — any oil or residue will stop the new grips holding.
- Use a purpose-made grip adhesive or glue on both the bar and the throttle tube, then slide the grips fully home so the closed ends seat squarely against the bar ends.
- Run lock wire through the recessed channels and twist it off neatly on the underside of the grip, keeping the twisted ends tucked away from your palms.
- Allow the adhesive to cure fully (follow the glue manufacturer's instructions) before riding — riding on uncured grips is the most common cause of grips spinning.
- Check the throttle snaps back freely and that neither grip rotates or slides before every ride.
- Wash with mild soap and warm water and a soft brush to clear mud from the waffle pattern, then dry thoroughly; a clean waffle grips far better than a clogged one.
- Avoid solvents, fuel, brake cleaner, silicone sprays and polishes on or near the grips — they degrade the compound and leave a slippery surface.
- Replace the grips once the waffle pattern is worn flat, the compound hardens or splits, or the ends start to tear away, as worn grips reduce control.
- Store spare grips in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to keep the rubber supple.
