- Turn the fuel tap to the OFF position whenever the ATV is parked or stored to prevent fuel seeping past the needle valve into the carburettor.
- Inspect the tap body, inlet fitting, and outlet hose connection regularly for signs of wetness, staining, or fuel smell, which indicate a leak.
- Replace the tap immediately if any leakage is found — a fuel leak near a hot engine presents a serious fire hazard.
- Before starting an ATV that has sat in storage for an extended period, switch the tap to ON and check that fuel flows freely; a stuck or hardened internal diaphragm or seal may restrict flow and cause lean running.
- When fitting the replacement tap, ensure the outlet hose is fully seated and the hose clamp is tightened securely before starting the engine.
- Keep the fuel tank and fuel system clean; debris drawn into the tap can clog the internal strainer or seat and impair fuel delivery.
