The Vance & Hines Shortshots Staggered is a complete replacement exhaust system for 2012–2017 Harley-Davidson Softail models (excluding FXSB and FXSE), finished in chrome. It swaps the standard pipes for short, staggered shots with the brand's signature twin-slash ends — a classic hot-rod look and sound, with full-length heat shields covering the run of the system.

It suits Softail owners who want the deeper note and free-flowing character of a full system rather than a slip-on, without a large jump in price. Louvred-core baffles are fitted as standard, and the system accepts optional quiet baffles if you prefer a more restrained note.

Fitment is model-specific: 2012–2017 Softail, excluding FXSB and FXSE. Please confirm your model and year before ordering.

  • Full exhaust system for Harley-Davidson Softail 2012-2017 (excludes FXSB/FXSE)
  • Staggered shortshots layout with signature Vance & Hines twin-slash end treatment
  • Full-coverage, full-length heat shields
  • Louvred-core baffles fitted as standard
  • Accepts optional quiet baffles (part 21301, sold separately) for a quieter note
  • Flat-plane mounting panels for the 12mm oxygen sensors used across the Softail line
  • Oxygen sensor sits deeper in the exhaust stream for improved data feedback to the ECM
  • Chrome finish

  • Fit only to a completely cold engine, and follow the Vance & Hines instructions supplied with the system, tightening fasteners evenly and in the specified order.
  • Transfer the bike's existing 12mm oxygen sensors into the flat-plane mounts on the new head pipes; seat them squarely and do not overtighten.
  • Wipe all fingerprints, oil and packing residue from the chrome before the first start-up, as contaminants baked into hot chrome can stain permanently.
  • After the first few heat cycles, recheck all clamps, brackets and heat shield fasteners, then inspect them periodically along with the exhaust gaskets for leaks or rattles.
  • A full system changes exhaust flow, so have the fuelling checked and adjusted by a qualified tuner for the best running and to avoid running lean.
  • If you fit the optional quiet baffles (21301), do so only when the system is fully cool, and secure them as directed.
  • Clean when cool using mild detergent, warm water and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly; use a non-abrasive chrome polish on the pipes and avoid abrasive pads, steel wool and harsh solvents on the heat shields.
  • Rinse off road grime, salt and coastal spray promptly and dry the system to reduce pitting; apply a light chrome protectant before extended storage.
  • Check that the setup complies with the noise and emissions requirements applying to road use in your state or territory.
  • Allow the system to cool fully before covering the bike, and keep clothing, luggage and pillion legs clear of the pipes when riding.
