Check the panels against your bike's mounting points before fitting graphics or drilling anything — once a panel is modified it cannot be returned.
Fit the plastics on a warm day, or leave them in the sun for a short time beforehand, so the panels flex more easily into position.
Use the original fasteners, grommets and washers where they are still in good condition, and replace any that are stripped or perished.
Do not overtighten bolts into plastic; nip them up firmly by hand and recheck after the first ride, as panels can settle.
Wash with warm water and a mild detergent using a soft sponge or cloth, then rinse and dry.
Keep petrol, brake cleaner, harsh solvents and abrasive pads away from the plastics, as they can dull, stain or craze the surface.
If you are applying a graphics kit, clean the panels thoroughly and remove any release agent or polish residue first so the adhesive bonds properly.
Pressure wash from a sensible distance and avoid blasting directly at panel edges and mounting tabs.
Store spare panels flat and out of direct sunlight to prevent warping and fading.
Inspect for cracks around mounting points after crashes and replace damaged panels rather than riding on them, as cracks tend to spread.
